  1. Privacy

    Protecting your privacy is important to Chubb Insurance South Africa Limited ("Chubb"). We value our relationship with you, whether you’re a Chubb customer, website visitor (the "Website") or a participant in a promotion. We only use information you provide, which is collected lawfully.

    Please read this policy statement, which explains our current privacy practices and what we do with the information we collect. If we make any significant change, we’ll announce it here.

  2. Anonymous browsing

    You can visit the Website without revealing any information about yourself, including your email address. We may use IP addresses and referring URLs to analyse trends, administer the site, track users’ movements, and gather broad demographic information for aggregated use. IP addresses are not linked to personally identifiable information.

  3. Data protection

    For the purposes of this Data Protection Notice and Statement, references to "Chubb" include, where the context admits, references to the Business Sponsor. Please note, however, that the Business Sponsor may separately have explained to you how they hold and use your personal data and hold personal data separately from us. Chubb will use the information about you to provide you with insurance services and, unless you have asked us not to, additional products and services. Chubb fully accepts our responsibility to protect the privacy of customers and the confidentiality and security of information entrusted to us.

    The information you provided when you took out your policy, together with other information, will be used by Chubb and our group companies. It will be used for administration and customer service. Chubb may disclose information to our service providers and agents for these purposes. It may also be used to prevent fraud by passing details to other insurers and / or regulatory bodies. Where you have provided information about another person regarding the purchase and performance of this insurance policy, you confirm that they have appointed you to act for them, that they have consented to the processing of their personal data (including sensitive personal data), and they have consented to the transfer of their information abroad. You also agree to receive, on their behalf, any data protection notices from us.

    Unless you have informed us otherwise, Chubb may contact you by mail, telephone, email or SMS to let you know about any goods, services or promotions that may be of interest to you and / or share your information with organisations that are Chubb’s business partners. If you ask Chubb, we will tell you what information it holds about you and provide it to you in accordance with applicable law. Chubb may monitor and / or record your communication with Chubb either ourselves or by reputable organisations selected by us, to ensure consistent servicing levels and account operation. Chubb will keep information about you only for so long as it is appropriate and allowed by law.

  4. Type of information we collect

    The type of information we collect about you and other people to be insured includes:

    • name
    • date of birth
    • address
    • email address
    • phone number
    • other details necessary to underwrite or fulfil an insurance policy
    • credit / debit card details

  5. Aggregated information / surveys

    We may provide aggregated information about customers, sales, traffic patterns and services to third parties, but these statistics will not include any personal information that identifies individuals.

    Periodically, we may conduct online surveys to better understand customers’ needs and experiences. You will be given the option to opt-out of these surveys.

  6. Sensitive information

    Occasionally, it may be necessary to collect sensitive personal information before providing insurance cover. Such information may relate to:

    • physical or mental health, and
    • criminal offences or pending prosecutions.

    Where such information relates to someone other than you, you must obtain their explicit consent before disclosing it.

  7. Collection of data by advertisers or linked sites

    The websites of other organisations advertising on, or linked to, Chubb’s website, are outside our control. Chubb is not responsible for the privacy policies and practices of other sites and recommends you check their privacy policies and practices carefully.

  8. Transfer of data to other jurisdictions / territories including outside South Africa

    The information you provided when using this website or when you took out this policy, together with other information you provide at any later date, will be used by Chubb and our group companies to help it meet your needs, including supplying you with products and services you have requested, initially, or at any later date, supplying you with information about additional products and services, and improving our products, services and the operations of the Website. Chubb may disclose your information to our service providers and agents for these purposes as well as any agents you have appointed to act on your behalf. For these purposes Chubb may, if necessary, transfer your information abroad to countries that do not have the same level of data protection as South Africa. If Chubb does make such a transfer, we will take reasonable steps to ensure that your information is protected.
